The City of Georgetown (Scott County) is located approximately twelve (12) miles north along the I-75 corridor from Lexington. Georgetown in recent years has moved from a rural suburb of Lexington to one of the fastest growing communities. Scott County is now the third fastest growing county in Kentucky, and was named as one of the 100 fastest growing countries in the country.

Thoroughbred Center will be a 408,450 square community and regional center situated on 44 acres at the I-75 and Highway 460 exit. The site is situated on the northeast quadrant of the interchange with frontage on I-75, Highway 460, and Connector Road.

From 1990 to 2000 Georgetown saw its population grow by 38.3%. Since 2000, the growth continued with an additional 18.6% growth through 2006. The primary factors creating the growth are the Toyota Plant, high quality of life, and affordable/moderate price housing.

Georgetown also enjoys superior location with regard to proximity to employment and to transient interstate traffic as well as major secondary state roads (east/west) that are not available in Lexington. Also, contributing to Georgetown’s growth is the law that has been passed protecting all existing horse farms, and prohibits any type of development taking place on these farms. Because Georgetown is the first exit/city to the north of Lexington that is not affected by this legislation, a large share of the economic and residential growth is occurring in Georgetown.

Georgetown’s growth began in 1988 when Toyota Motor Company factory opened. It has since grown to be the largest Toyota plant out side of Japan and employs more than 7,400 people. Currently the Camry, Solara, and Avalon are manufactured at the Georgetown plant, and plans to add another model in 2008 have recently been announced.
